Gothic on Fire
On 15 March 2007, around 9:51 am, one of the residents of a tenement house in Mostowa street in the Old City noticed through the windows of his flat a thick smoke, followed by fire and the sound of cracking and falling tiles. The EU membership obliges. In regard to the fire protection, there are new fire protection and rescue procedure standards. Such demands resulted in the 112 emergency number working in the State Fire Service centers. But the EU gives us also a great chance. A chance to increase the level of work and service conditions, and of equipment, including vehicles. Co-funded with the EU money, the projects allow for professional training of the rescuers. Almost 10 thousand uniformed sportsmen from 72 countries entered the sporting competition during 12th World Police and Fire Games in Australia. There were also 33 Polish firefighters-sportsmen who won 47 medals. (own info)
In the Court of the Helmets' King
The family hobby of Edward Mróz and his son Wojciech from Trześniów, the Podkarpacie province, started in 1983, when they made two helmets for the local volunteer firefighters who stood guard in church at the Lord's Tomb during the Holy Week. Today their craft is well-known and admired by firefighters from over 600 units of the Volunteer Fire Service, who wear the helmets made by Mr Mróz. By Zdzisław Wójcik
