Legal regulations concerning crisis management, national rescue system and national medical rescue must be created. It allows to create a system which connects all existing rescue services and helps volunteers working in different agencies - said Mr. Paweł Soloch - Vice-Minister of Interior and Administration - Head of Civil Protection of Poland.





Heavy raining in the large forest

On 24 August 2005 because of rapid storm in the area of Przełęcz Kocierska almost 100 l per m2 of water fell down immediately. Devastations made a firefighter’s work very hard. They had to search injured people - reported by Adam Caputa from District Department of SFS in Bielsko-Biała.

Firefighters from District Dept. of SFS in Przemyśl got vipers from the well which vipers chose as a winter place - reported by Daniel Dryniak.





Codes of safety

Bomb attacks by terrorists create a enormous danger for human life and make a hundreds of injured and fatalities. In these cases the most important issue is time of rescue services response which influences on effectiveness of given help to victims - by Krzysztof Łangowski from Firefighting and Rescue Unit in Tuchola.

Physical explosions: BLEVE

A BLEVE definition first time was used in 1957 by J.B. Smith, W.S. Marsh and W.L. Walls from American research institute Factory Mutual Corporation. In 1979 described this definition and NFPA introduced it as an obligatory fire engineering terminology. BLEVE means Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion. More education

Professional education and trainings of firefighters always provide higher level of professionalism. Graduation of fire service college or courses can be the only one form of taking higher qualifications of firefighters. Further education should take place during work time in units and departments. The main purpose of this education form should be getting more practice and knowledge based on fire school lessons. It had to be never forgotten that firefighters should know a basic knowledge about fire equipment and tools - reported by Wojciech Nolka from DD of SFS.





II International Practical Exercise "POMORSKIE 2005" of rope rescue

"POMORSKIE 2005" is a code of II International Practical Exercise "POMORSKIE 2005" of rope rescue which took place on November 2005 in Pomorskie Province and was organised by HQ of the SFS and Provincial Dept. Exercise was focused on rope rescue techniques on ships during building process concerning especially evacuation - reported by Tadeusz Kuchciński from PD of SFS in Gdańsk.





IN-FIRE-NET - a successful project

The Main School of Fire Service has completed a pilot Polish-American project IN-FIRE-NET (International Fire and Rescue Network) during which 2 fire officers and 10 students participated in one month professional practise in fire department and homeland security offices in United States - reported by Tomasz Zwęgliński from MS of FS.





Original subject of engineering thesis in the Main School of Fire Service

An original subject of engineering thesis were chosen by Barbara Grądziel (student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Safety). An inspiration for subject choice "Analysis of civil protection and civil defence systems in Poland and Romania" provided her a practice in Bucharest last year in the frame of bilateral agreement between MS of FS and Fire Officers Faculty from Police Academy.





Extinguishing foam vs. natural environment

How foam extinguishing agents can influence on natural environment during firefighting operations? And what are safe conditions of its storage? - research paper by Andrzej Mizerski, Mirosław Sobolewski and Mirosław Jabłonowski from the Section of Extinguishing Agents of MS of FS.





Multitools - an idea or necessity?

A number of complicated installations, equipment and engines which may result in injured people or even fatalities make us obligatory to use many tools. Soon a techniques will require a multitools - reported by Bogusław Poremski.





Risk and result possibility

Sometimes firefighters are in danger during their work which may result in human injures or even fatalities. In ancient times when fire firefighting teams were created firemen work was considered as very dangerous - by Krzysztof Łangowski.





Programmes for improving civil protection

A present discussion concerning a future of civil protection is nowadays much more hot topic, which of course will influence on national and local programmes for improving civil protection system. An additional improvement of these activities is made by Minister of Interior and Administration priority in this field - reported by Janusz Jakubowski - adviser of Chief Commandant of SFS.
